Who invented the Pneumatic tire? (Robert William Thomson)

R.W. Thomson
An engineer, Robert William Thomson, born at Stonehaven, Scotland, in 1822 was the inventor of such tire. In 1845, Thomson (see picture) presented a tire which had an inner tube of canvas made airtight with rubber solution, and an outer cover of leather. A number of these tires were fitted to road vehicles, but they went out of use because of the imperfections of the inner tube. The pneumatic tire was re-invented in 1888 by John B. Dunlop, a veterinary surgeon of Belfast, UK, in a much improved form, and soon came into universal use for bicycles, and, after on for motor cars.
